Baby carriage project takes Team One to the final
Team One from Jiading No. 1 Middle School won the Renaissance Award at the Shanghai stage of this year鈥檚 Destination Imagination challenge and represented the city at the national finals held from December 4 to 7 in north China鈥檚 Hebei Province.
The world final takes place next May in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Shanghai event attracted 165 teams who took part in various challenges.
Jing Haoxiang, a member of the winning team, said he was delighted with the opportunity to take part in the national final.
Two months ago, Jing got together with a group of six other students with the intention of competing in the Shanghai event.
They assembled a battery-powered vehicle using an old baby carriage.
Destination Imagination is a non-profit, volunteer-led organization with a worldwide reach which aims to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders.
The Destination Imagination program is a hands-on system of learning that fosters students鈥 creativity and curiosity through open-ended academic challenges in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and fine arts.
Participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and the importance of collaboration when it comes to solving problems.
