Bad driving caught on camera
Cameras installed across the Jiading District have been effective in maintaining good traffic order by capturing bad driving and parking.
Altogether 130 sets of such cameras have been installed.
The office on Jia’an Road dealing with traffic violations sees a surging number of drivers receiving punishment every day.
“With the cameras, traffic police found nearly 40,000 cases of poor parking in a month,” traffic officer Xu Huiping said. The high resolution cameras take pictures every 30 seconds, making it difficult for lawbreakers to escape punishment.
E-cops
However, the cameras are not aimed at fining residents, but to maintain good traffic order. The police have put up no-parking signs at many places, including Shanghai University and Tesco Supermarket, reminding the drivers not to park in these streets.
In addition to the e-cops, traffic police are still the major force in maintaining traffic order.
On December 17, traffic officer Sun Jinbiao was carrying out routine checks when he noticed that traffic heading west along Tacheng Road was going very slowly.
He found a poorly parked Polo was blocking the way and fined the driver. When the Polo move, traffic flow on the street was restored.
