Big plans for a modern and green town

JIADING will become a traffic hub in the Yangtze River Delta area, with five Metro lines connecting it to downtown Shanghai and neighboring cities, Ma Chunlei, Jiading's governor, has said while revealing the government's blueprint for the district.
With the improved traffic network, local people can drive to Hongqiao International Airport in 15 minutes via the Jiamin Elevated Road and travel to Jiangsu Province simply via the Metro system, he said.
Jiading is Shanghai's fastest-growing district in terms of regional finance and the district now is noted for its automotive industry and e-commerce.
More than 100 auto research and development institutes have settled in the district and an automobile R&D port is under construction, which will attract 100 more institutes, Ma said.
360buy.com, a leading e-commerce firm, is constructing a huge logistics center in Jiading. It is the biggest in Asia, dubbed "Asian No.1," Ma disclosed.
Better life
Meanwhile, Jiading aims to become a model of good integration of industry and urban life, where people can both find good jobs and a comfortable life, Ma said.
"Jiading will try to improve its social undertakings in medical treatment, culture, sports, commerce, hotels and tourism," Ma said.
Jiading now has set up a complete medical service system and excellent educational resources with many new facilities settled in the district.
New cultural venues will open in the first half of the year, including the Jiading Cultural Center, Jiading Library, Jiading Museum and Han Tianheng Art Museum.
Jiading Poly Theater will open early next year.
In the district's central area, the Jiading Sports Center, with an investment of nearly 500 million yuan (US$80.26 million), is under construction.
In the core area of Jiading New Town the green coverage will reach 40 percent and the water coverage will be 12 percent, according to Ma.
