Border towns work together for benefit of residents

JIATINGHUI City Plaza in Anting Town has attracted an average of 75,000 visitors on weekends since it opened for trial operation one month ago.

About 20 percent of the visitors are from neighboring areas in Qingpu District and Huaqiao Town in Kunshan City of Jiangsu Province.

Anting signed a collaboration deal with Huaqiao in 2008 and has since carried out a series of recreational activities allowing residents in both towns to enjoy, such as lectures on healthy lifestyles.

Calls made by Huaqiao residents to Anting are now regarded as local calls, thus saving them roaming fees.

Administrative authorities in the two towns have also collaborated on solving pollution, traffic and illegal construction problems on their shared border. They have jointly set up an agricultural market in Anting.

The extension of Metro Line 11, connecting Anting and Huaqiao, is currently under construction.

Many medical and educational facilities are also under construction, expected to provide great convenience for the residents of both two towns upon completion.
