Cable TV upgrade

JIADING District will spend 300 million yuan (US$44 million) in the next two years to upgrade its cable-TV and broadband systems, distributing 400,000 set-top boxes to 200,000 families for free, to promote use of cable and broadband systems.

Citizen art

THE third annual Shanghai Citizen's Art Exhibition was held in Yangpu District. About 2,300 diverse exhibits were displayed, including calligraphy and photography works by competitors from Jiading.

Children's health

THE Children's Hospital of Fudan University signed an agreement with the Health Bureau of Jiading District as part of a cooperative effort to improve the health care of children in the district.

Yearbook out

THE 2010 Jiading Yearbook has been issued. The book contains 27 chapters and also includes summary tables for easy reference. A disc comes free with each booklet.

Tackling poverty

THE Health Bureau of Jiading District sent nine medical professionals to Diqin, Yunnan Province, for 10 days this month to do volunteer service. In 2004, Jiading established anti-poverty programs in Diqin's Shangri-La and Deqin counties, investing funds to help in areas such as education and health care.

Musical magic

Artists from the Shanghai Actors' Troupe are performing local operas, saxophone concerts and magic shows in all 12 towns and sub-districts of Jiading District through October 25. The performance was entitled "Happy Expo Year 2010."
