Cartoon hero could soon be in every home

The medical robot featured in the hit animated movie 鈥淏ig Hero 6鈥 will probably be owned by many families when the era of robots comes, the Future Robot Industrial Association Conference in Jiading heard.
The use of robot waiters in some restaurants in Shanghai and Hangzhou became a popular topic during this year鈥檚 Spring Festival. According to Peng Jun, deputy chief engineer of Jiading Commission of Science and Technology, robots in the future will be widely used in the service industry. 鈥淭hey will be able to learn, think and make judgments besides carrying out people鈥檚 orders.鈥
Various sensors on distance, pressure, temperature and sound are just like human sense organs. They can help the robot obtain information from the outside world and make judgments and moves. In the future, robots will be widely used in the medical and education industries.
Big opportunities
With the development of artificial intelligence and big data as well as the growing pressure in service and manufacturing industries as a result of the aging population, there will be big opportunities for the robot market in the future.
The Future Robot Industrial Association initiated by Shanghai Institute of Micro-technology Industry and has attracted many industrial practitioners.
So far, about 60 enterprises and institutes including the Robot and Intelligent Equipment Research Institute of China Academy of Science and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have registered as members, and more than 100 enterprises have put in applications.
