Census reveals increase in permanent population
THE permanent population in Jiading District hit 1.47 million according to the sixth national census announced by the district's Statistics Bureau on May 4, among which 828,200 or 56.29 percent are from other provinces or municipalities.
Jiading's permanent population has increased by 718,100 in the past decade and the population from other provinces or municipalities grew by 614,600 people.
There are more than 85 people moving from other provinces or municipalities to Jiading District for every extra permanent population of 100 people. The rapid growth of permanent population has a close tie with the district's economic and social development as Jiading provides a great deal of jobs for migrant workers by adjusting its industrial structure and layout.
The labor force from other provinces or municipalities flocking to Jiading has eased the aging problem which puts pressure on pensions and health care. Jiading has a registered population of 134,900 aged 60 and above, accounting for 24.1 percent of the total population. The sex ratio of the permanent population stays at 115.8, about 116 males for every 100 females.
A total of 185,700 people among Jiading's permanent population have received junior college or higher education, accounting for 12.6 percent. Most people from other provinces or municipalities have received junior and senior high school education.
There are 542,700 households with 1.28 million people among the permanent population. Every household has 2.37 people on average, 0.43 people less than those in the fifth census.
The population only dropped in Jiading Town compared to the number in the fifth census. Jiangqiao, Anting, Malu and Nanxiang towns and Jiading Industrial Park rank the first five in the permanent population.
Jiading will increase its population and structure by combining population with industry policies and urban planning.
