By January 18, a total of 12.24 million yuan (US$1.793 million) had been raised by the Greatest Love Under the Sky charity event in Jiading District.
In the afternoon of January 16, students from Qiliang Middle School gathered at Bole Square in Jiading Town to help raise money. Many passers-by stopped and donated.
A total of 8.83 million yuan will be provided to 25,561 underprivileged residents by the local government before Spring Festival.
Last year, the local government provided a variety of subsidies totaling 180 million yuan which benefited 546,000 people.
With the launch of a monitoring system on social aid fund last August, residents can log onto the Internet and check subsidy items. It has made the process clearer.
