Cleaning up land and inferior business practicesStaff Reporters

JIADING District saved 24,727 tons of coal and revitalized 55.07 hectares of land by eliminating inferior enterprises and renovating manufacturing facilities in some of the enterprises in the first quarter.

That means the district has reached the goal of energy saving and pollution reduction for the first quarter. To take a solid step in business restructuring, the district also picked up 11 quality projects for industrial land usage and 260 projects for factory renting.

The Shanghai Jinjiang Kirin Beverage & Food Co Ltd has set up a new factory in Jiading District's Anting Town with a total investment of US$70 million. It was established after the elimination of Bob's Family Food (Shanghai) Co Ltd, which ran up debts of 80 million yuan (US$11.707 million).

The new factory at Anting applies the world's most advanced assembly line to produce tea drinks and juices.

Its yearly sales volume is expected to reach 150 million yuan. The production potential will be further developed with a second assembly line planned.

The establishment of Kirin's new factory was a direct result of the establishment of another company producing plastic products, which led to the formation of an industry chain.

To date, Anting Town has eliminated three inferior enterprises and revitalized about 4.67 hectares of land this year.

The district's Nanxiang Town has eliminated 10 enterprises performing poorly and is negotiating with 17 enterprises. It is expected that within the year, 30 inferior enterprises in the town will be eliminated and about 250,000 square meters of land will be revitalized.

Shanghai Xinchangzheng Fine Chemical Co Ltd mainly produces sodium acetate. It was eliminated because of excess energy consumption and operating losses.

The local government of Nanxiang Town re-planned its area after the elimination. A standard factory covering an area of about 300,000 square meters is under construction.

At Malu Town, 20 seriously polluting enterprises have been listed on the elimination blacklist. More than 13.33 hectares of land will be revitalized.

Since last year, Malu Town has dealt with 101 seriously polluting enterprises, saving 20,586 tons of coal. It has also signed energy-saving and emission reduction pledges with 70 enterprises.
