Colorful orchids blossom at Huating

ORCHIDS are now in bloom at Huating Planting Base in Jiading District.
These beautiful flowers come in many shapes, sizes and colors.
The base now boasts a greenhouse with more than 100 types of orchids. Its annual output of flower seeding is expected to reach 1 million. Prices for one flower pot range from tens of yuan to several thousand yuan.
The biggest orchid, nicknamed "Wedding," is more than 70 centimeters in height and has the biggest flower diameter at 12 centimeters. The smallest orchid is around 15 centimeters in height. It is a new species introduced from Taiwan this year.
Since orchids are highly sensitive to temperature, six air-conditioners run around the clock to keep the mercury at 25 degrees Celsius.
A guidebook on how to raise orchids is provided free of charge for customers as the flowers have become popular with people decorating new homes.
