Commercial and tourist markets enjoy growth throughout holiday period

Jiading’s commercial and tourist markets enjoyed good growth around the Spring Festival.

According to Jiading economic authorities, the total income of 20 main commercial enterprises in the district reached 740 million yuan (US$122.03 million) from January 24 to February 6, up 14.6 percent from the same period of last year. It was a new record for the district and ranked top among all the city’s suburban districts.

Clothes, gold products, alcohol and food proved popular with shoppers before the holiday began.

Commercial complexes in the district remained popular with consumers. During the festival, Jiangqiao Wanda Commercial Square, Jiatinghui and Zhongye Xiangteng Urban Square reported a growth of 44 percent in their income around the festival period.

Gold ornaments were also popular. Laofengxiang and Laomiao Gold stores in Jiading took in around 15.86 million yuan, up 8.2 percent from the same period last year.

Booming tourism

During the holiday, Jiading received some 367,000 tourists and achieved total admission income of 7.61 million yuan, up 78.46 percent and 55.83 percent respectively from last year. Guyi Garden and Jiading Automobile Expo Park proved the most poopular.

Automobile sales boomed. This year, practical car models became the big sellers.

“In December we sold about 130 cars, and in January it went up by 20 percent,” said Chen Long, an official at a car showroom on Dengliu Road M. “Cruz sales occupy about half of the total sales every month, and our customers can get the car one month after reservation.”

Car rentals were also in demand.

Chen Youzhi from Henan Province rented a Santana with three friends and drove home for the Spring Festival to avoid crowded trains and buses. “I live in countryside of Henan, and it would be tiring taking trains and buses to get home,” Chen said. “It won’t cost us too much renting the car because we share the payment.”

An official with eHi Car Services’ Jiading branch said their cars were mostly rented out during the festival. “We rented over 30 cars a day and still kept receiving calls for reservations and information.”

Most families opted for middle-end cars, considering the safety and degree of comfort they afford, he added.
