Contacts at your service
A contact book of volunteers has proved useful ever since it was first published in Xincheng Sub-district three years ago.
Retired traditional Chinese medicine doctor Xi Di is one of those listed. With the contact book, many residents are able to ask for his advice and Xi has established his own studio.
The book also helps people with the same interests to get together.
Shen Yunbao likes weaving, and she was able to find residents with the same hobby in the contact book. They send their work to old people’s homes and also raise money for charity by selling items.
Du Guang, another name in the book, has become renowned among the community for his gardening advice.
More than 20 doctors at Yingyuan Hospital agreed to have their contact details listed in the book for residents in need of medical consultations.
The book is issued every year and the 2014 edition contains 156 names and 50 service items.
More than 36,000 residents are said to have received the help they needed with the assistance of the contact book so far.
