Country park with something for all

The first phase of Jiabei Country Park is set to open in July 2017.

It will include 10 agricultural zones and nine key projects. The park will cover 3.7 square kilometers of farmland, about the size of 26 People’s Squares in downtown Shanghai.

Most will be used for rice and wheat while 0.9 square kilometers will be used for planting rape, corn, waxberries, bamboo, gold pomelos, strawberries, grapes and many other flowers and fruits.

The park will have three visitor centers and encompass nine key projects. The architecture will be in the style of water towns in the south Yangtze River area.

There are plans to rebuild the Jiading Workers’ Theater, and a business street will feature traditional crafts and food. A wedding hall will host traditional ceremonies.

The park will also contain Xuqin Old Village and an organic farm.

Donggang Cottage will be a cultural and artistic center covering an area of 5,700 square meters. It will exhibit artworks in traditional Chinese buildings.

An area of 151,000 square meters will be set aside for outdoor activities, including camping and picnics.

The park will also present organic food growing and processing with visitors able to participate in planting and harvesting.

A learning academy will be where parents can take their children to learn about traditional culture and science.

A hotel will provide a retreat for urban residents.

According to the plans, carnivals will be held in Jiabei Country Park in February, April, June and November every year.

After opening of the phase one project, the number of visitors is estimated at around 4,000 a day, with the numbers expected to rise to 30,000 during peak days.

In the park there will be 4.8 kilometers of waterways, 9.2 kilometers of electric car routes, 11.6 kilometers of cycling lanes and 19 kilometers of hiking paths.

Under the plans, the architecture in the park will not just be in traditional style, but also original modern style. Visitors will be able to experience a fusion of traditional, modern and futuristic architecture.

The park operator plans to set up an information sharing platform in the park, providing details of transport, travel routes, weather, emergency response information through, possibly, intelligent wristbands.

With the wristband, visitors will be able to get ticketing, catering, entertainment and transport information with simple clicks.
