A GROUP of new public cultural facilities including the first self-service library open 24 hours in Shanghai will be built and open in two or three years in Jiading District.
The projects also include a museum with constant temperature and humidity, a multi-functional cultural palace and a riverside theater.
The new library at Jiading New City will be the city's first 24-hour self-service one. It will also boast a music library and an audio room where readers can borrow audio materials.
Jiading Museum's new exhibition hall will be completed by October. Covering an area of 6,705 square meters, it is neighboring to Qiuxia Garden.
Its three exhibition halls and a temporary one will showcase collections and host a variety of exhibitions.
It features constant temperature and humidity control systems and improved fire-extinguishing, guaranteeing little damage to cultural relics.
Construction of Poly Theater, Shanghai's first riverside theater, is expected to be completed in 2013 by Yuanxiang Lake.
