Cultural industries forge head with creativity
THE cultural industry is forging ahead with more creativity in Jiading District, which is now home to around 300 companies specializing in arts, design, advertising, media and game development.
The 6,000-square-meter Xinzeyuan Artist Village has become a cultural landmark of Shanghai for its appeal to artists. Built in 2004 and appointed a creative industry park by the local government in 2008, Xinzeyuan once attracted over 100 painters, sculptors and calligraphers around the country. Around 50 have established their long-term studios there and five foreign painters recently joined them.
A more practical example is Shanghai Jingtian Industrial Design Company. Started with only 500,000 yuan (US$79,057) registered capital, it has grown into a regular design partner with major automobile companies and chalked up an annual revenue of over 5 million yuan with its creativity.
The website companies are also blossoming. Gasgoo, a website of auto news, has been revving up its transformation since it settled down in Jiading District one and a half years ago. With more than five years industrial experience and efforts from over 300 employees, its exclusive news, which is re-posted up to 20,000 times every day on the Internet, has made the website an information hub for the industry. Gasgoo now helps the Chinese manufacturers of auto parts to break into overseas markets and also their foreign peers to better understand the local needs and make procurement.
