Culture chasers chase Chinese style in many forms
CHINESE culture has become hugely popular all over the world. To follow the trend though, you don't need to hang red lanterns on the door, nor put whole sets of traditional Chinese furniture in your room. You can achieve good taste with traditional arts like paper-cuts, ceramics and embroidery, as long as you have the imagination.
When these rich Chinese elements are mixed with various cultures, how will our life change?
Traditional old houses
When talking about old houses in Jiading, perhaps you think of the images of wooden doors with carved patterns, cyan bricks and white walls. Actually, as early as in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), there had been Western-styled houses built in Jiading with reinforced concrete structures.
Built in the 1910s and 1920s, the Yin's House is in Loutang Ancient Town. Maybe it's not the earliest, but it must be the best-preserved residential house with Chinese and Western styles. Its composition is just like the traditional residences in the southern area in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River - regular and symmetrical.
On the pillars there are carved patterns of plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo and chrysanthemums, which were the "four symbols of gentleness" in ancient China.
However, the glass patterns on the top windows are in a Western style. It's simpler than the traditional patterns but good at letting in daylight. On the wall there are pictures from the ancient stories of "The Three Kingdoms," while the floor is paved with colorful ceramic tiles imported from Germany, and are still shining today.
The Huang's Garden in Fengbang is unique among Jiading gardens. It was built from 1924 to 1928, and covers an area of about half hectare. Its owner planned to build an ecological garden at the very beginning of the construction, which was very far-sighted in those days.
The Huang's Garden looks like an irregular ellipse, with a calabash-shaped pond in the center. The whole garden is surrounded by a ditch, leaving just one entrance and exit for visitors. There are over 200 varieties of plants in the garden, most of which come from Japan and North America and are rare locally.
Chinese fashion
What's the most popular fashion this spring and summer? Judging from the fashion show stages, we can easily find that a Chinese style is fast approaching. At the Milan Fashion Week, one male garment appealed to all: a monochrome color like a Chinese painting, with patterns of dragons and peony, tigers and rocks - a suit involving Chinese painting elements with high-quality silk material made everyone feel warm and peaceful.
In Paris, Giorgio Armani brought new designs with transformed Chinese elements - even the background music of the fashion show was Chinese folk music, making a grand feast for the audience.
Maybe the T-stage is too far from ordinary people, so let's check some ordinary clothing. Swarovski, Tiffany, many famous brands have released Chinese-style products.
