Culture nod
NANXIANG Town was listed as one of the "Historic Towns of China" recently by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. It's the second town in Jiading District to win such recognition following an earlier designation for Jiading Town.
Expat award
Torbjorn Sternsjo, managing director of Sapa Heat Transfer (Shanghai) from Sweden, and Kim Bong Whan, manager of Shanghai Aimoli Pacific Trading Co. from South Korea, were presented with the Magnolia Award by Shanghai Municipal Government. It's the top honor for foreigners living and working in Shanghai. To date, 18 foreigners in Jiading have received the award.
Sport event
From April to September, Jiading will hold the first sports meet organized for companies. Work on the event is under way.
Bus line
The new bus line No. 54 from Jiading North Station to Cao-wang Temple on Xupan Road began operation on January 6 in Jiading. The route spans 16 kilometers. It takes about 50 minutes to complete a trip. The buses run from 5:05am to 7pm, with intervals of about 20 to 25 minutes.
Work vetted
The two-month renovation of the Dacheng Pavilion at the Confucius Temple has been inspected by officials from the Shanghai Bureau of Cultural Relics and passed all requirements.
Photo history
Jiading District has published a book of photos chronicling the past 60 years of its development. The book contains more than 770 pictures.
Documentary
"Painter Lu Yanshao," a documentary filmed by the Jiading Radio and Television Station, won an award at the 2010 Internet Ceremony of Global Chinese Documentary recently. The film is 30 minutes long and took two years to shoot.
Online police
Jiading police arrested a bicycle thief after posting photos of four suspects on t.sina.com.cn. The posting drew a lot of tips from netizens.
Disabled work
Jiading District reports that almost all of the 5,984 physically challenged persons who have the ability to do some work have been given employment by the end of last year.
