Dance contest brings out the best in competitors
JIADING District dancers boogied, sashayed and sambaed during the quarterfinals of the 2012 Jiading Dancing Contest on May 26.
The amateur contestants all have their own stories, which were shared through dancing.
Wang Jue from Jiangqiao Town is passionate about dancing and was determined to do well in the quarterfinals. She has participated in dances at the public square in her community for more than three years. This time, she was the lead dancer. Together with other dancers from her community, she showed her talent in the dance "The Beauty of the Taihu Lake" and successfully went on to the next round.
In fact, many of the contestants said they usually dance at local public squares for fun. Ten senior dancers from Xincheng Road Community showed their dance of "Accompany You to See the Grassland" and also earned a position in the quarterfinals.
Despite the contestants being hopeful of advancing, not everyone succeeds.
During the selection in Anting Town, cha-cha dancers Mao Te and Zhao Chenchen failed to make advance.
"We only practiced three days before going onto stage. The preparation time is too short," Mao said.
However, they got something more. The Latin dance class they offer at the cultural center in Anting has attracted many participants.
