District focused on green planning
LOW-CARBON exhibits at Shanghai World Expo's Urban Best Practices Area are wooing visitors with environment-friendly concepts.
Such green concepts are being showed as well in Jiading District's urban planning.
Jiading has implemented a strict energy-saving standard on new building construction. Also, new technologies, materials and industrial art are applied in urban planning at Anting Town and Jiading New City.
At Anting Town, materials that efficiently reduce thermal energy consumption in winter are used in buildings.
Also, solar hot-water systems are used in villa designs. The system can meet 60 percent of a family's total water demand and save around 600 yuan (US$87.82) of annual electricity costs for each household.
A large cold storage tank with a height of 20 meters will be built to save the town's cooling costs by 1.92 million yuan.
Currently, the district has 20 "energy-saving construction sites." At the Jiading District Judicial Center, rainwater is collected from underground pipe lines. After processing, the rainwater is used to wash vehicles and toilets at the construction site.
So far, it has saved 600 tons of water for the construction company.
Old factories, bricks and timber will also be utilized again in the district's urban construction.
