District’s help pays off for poor county

Jiading has spent 18 million yuan (US$2.85 million) and launched various projects to support the development of Jiuzhi County in northwest China’s Qinghai Province since 2010.

Back then, Jiuzhi was a poor place, and much of its infrastructure was built decades ago.

In 2011, Jiading spent 3.3 million yuan building a new kindergarten there to same standard as those in Jiading. Completed in 2013, it is one of the finest kindergartens in the entire province.

This year, Jiading is spending 10 million yuan on renovations to the Jiuzhi People’s Hospital. The outpatient and inpatient buildings will be rebuilt along with an infectious diseases department and the new hospital will be equipped with standard operating rooms, hyperbaric oxygen chambers and a medical waste disposal system.

In the future, county residents will be able to have serious illnesses treated there without having to leave the county.

Jiading has also helped the county build 10 greenhouses for vegetables, with the annual yield of more than 15,000 kilograms satisfying the basic demands of the county.

In Jiuzhi County there is a beautiful national geological park. However, many tourists came but didn’t stay long because of the lack of facilities.

To promote the local tourist industry, Jiading helped it build up a tourist center with about 70 hotel rooms.
