Driven toreal romance at the drive-in
WHAT a wonderful experience to watch a movie with my wife in my own car! This dream came true when the first drive-in movie theater in Shanghai was opened in Anting. "A Drive-in Movie Theater" which used to be a short story from an English lesson has now come to life. How could I miss it!
Although it is the Internet era and we are able to watch films at home as we search online, drive-in theaters still have a real vitality. The screens in this theater are bigger than those in traditional indoor cinemas and people can enjoy a better personal space. I feel that the entire theater has only two in the audience - my wife and I. I feel comfortable because no matter what we say or do does not affect others. Sitting inside my car gives me a special sense of security, like lying on the sofa and watching television at home.
One night, I drove 2 kilometers from my home to Auto Exposition Park with my wife, taking some prepared chips, juice and popcorn to experience the drive-in theater. Four domestic films were on show on two screens from 7:30pm to 2am including "Painted Skin," "Connected," "Storm Rider" and "Shi Quan Jiu Mei."
Following the directions of the staff, the customers parked their cars properly so that every one could watch the movie clearly. We stopped at B area. It was an ideal location where both screens could be seen. It was convenient for us to switch between the two films just by changing the FM channels in my car. People can't adjust the volume of a movie at a cinema but you can do this at the drive-in car. To be honest, the sound effects in the small space were no worse than in most cinemas.
Though drive-in theaters appeared in the United States 70 years ago, they are rarely seen in China. It was embarrassing that this was the first movie I had shared with my wife since we fell in love. To make this memorable, I bought a bunch of flowers that afternoon and hid them under the back seat. When leading actor said touching words to actress who had turned into a seductress in "Painted Skin," I presented the flowers to my wife. She was so excited that she could not help crying. Unexpectedly, our first film and the first bunch of flowers took place at a drive-in theater. I think we will never forget this romantic experience.
