Economy rises


THE district's economy gained 20.49 billion yuan (US$3.1 billion) in the first quarter, up 14.8 percent from a year earlier. Industrial output of all state-owned companies and private companies with annual sales over 5 million yuan in Jiading jumped 20.7 percent to 55.41 billion yuan. The investment in fixed assets grew by 82.5 percent to 13.66 billion yuan.

Electric cars

The owners of the district's first eight private electric cars registered their licenses in the second-hand car trading center in Anting Town on April 6, a further step toward the construction of an international electric car demonstration zone. The eight residents purchased the cars at an average cost of about 140,000 yuan with a national subsidy of up to 60,000 yuan. Charging facilities will cover the whole district by 2012.

Bus exhibition

The 11th Busworld Asia, jointly organized by B.A.A.V and Urban Public Transport Institute of China Civil Engineering Society, was held from March 30 to April 1 at the Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center. The exhibition featured buses and bus parts from China, Singapore, India and other Asian countries. The exhibition also set up an E-bus Hall to display the most advanced and innovative technical concepts in bus fields.

Tech leader lands

Shanghai Gao RFID Inc, invested by Dr Frank Gao, a Chinese Canadian, settled in Jiading High-tech Park this year. The company is a global leader in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and the first foreign-invested enterprise specializing in RFID in Jiading.

Sports event

Jiading's first comprehensive sports meeting for enterprise employees will open on this Saturday afternoon. The five-month event will feature 12 sports including five-a-side football, three-a-side basketball and table tennis.

E-firms ranked

Eight Jiading-based enterprises were listed among China's top 50 e-commerce enterprises worth investment in 2011. 360buy.com, China's top online seller of consumer electronics and communication products, and online garments and accessories retailer Vancl shared first place.
