Exports soar 23 percent in first half year
EXPORTS from the Jiading District reached US$3.68 billion in the first half of this year, achieving year-on-year growth of 23 percent.
Foreign trade picked up this year as signs of an improving world economy stoked trading.
The district's 100 major export companies reported a 20 percent rise in direct exports to US$2.344 billion from the same period a year earlier. That accounted for 64 percent of gross export value.
Mechanical and electrical products were the driving force behind the increase. They showed an increase of 25 percent to US$2.63 billion in the first six months.Automobile and car parts were major contributors to the gains, increasing 74 percent in the period to US$479 million.
The value of imports and exports at the district's export processing zone reached US$209 million in the first half of the year. Four logistics companies began operations there to ensure smooth flow of goods.
