F1 circuit welcomes the year with running events
Shanghai International Circuit hosted two runs to welcome the New Year on January 1, a 5.4 kilometer run and a half marathon. Yang Shuai was the first man to finish the longer race with Zhong Wenyan taking the women’s title. They each won the use of an Audi A3 sedan for six months.
Li Peng and Hu Enhui, who were second-placed man and woman, respectively, received return air tickets, hotel vouchers and entry to the Queensland marathon in Australia.
In third place, Song Runjiang and Li Yanhong won tickets for the final race at the Formula One China Grand Prix later this year.
The runs on the circuit originated at a gathering of F1 employees at a bar who decided to organized a small-scale F1 employees run. The event soon became popular among F1 employees and opened to members of the public last year.
The runs have many F1 elements. F1 flag codes direct the runners and prizes include F1 tickets to the repair zone and face-to-face meetings with F1 drivers tickets. Also on offer were tickets for the World Endurance Championship Shanghai leg.
