F1 weekend another roaring success
MERCEDES Formula One driver Nico Rosberg of Germany celebrated the first victory of his F1 career with a commanding race at the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix on April 15 in Jiading District.
Britain's Jenson Button finished second and his McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton finished third.
For three days, Shanghai International Circuit in Anting was filled with visitors. Roaring engines got the crowd excited. More than 185,000 people swarmed to the stands.
Ticket sales increased 15 percent compared to last year. Meanwhile, more than 600 million people from 150 countries and regions watched the race live transmitted on television.
People of different nationalities gathered together to watch six former world champions compete on the same circuit. Qiu Junjie, a race fan, said watching the race at the track was like a feast. The university student has been a race fan for five years.
"The roaring engines and the special racing atmosphere attracted me immediately," Qiu said.
Shanghai Auto Culture Festival was held during the F1 weekend. Featuring three main chapters - Happy Land, Passionate City and Driving to the Future - the event was enthusiastically received.
The festival also had 13 activities concerning race culture, recreation, commercial promotion and art.
In addition to a go-kart driving carnival, a tourism promotion conference and a photography contest, the venue also hosted a touring car championship on April 28 and 29.
