Families hope to qualify for affordable homes
MORE than 700 families with Jiading permanent residence were in line to buy the first batch of affordable apartments in Jiading District. They will likely be able to purchase an apartment before March 2012.
To qualify, one must hand in complete and eligible certifications related to housing, property, income and so on. However, many people were rejected because of incomplete applications.
A woman surnamed Tang said her fund management company only sent quarterly statements, but monthly statements are required in the application.
The qualifying criteria for an affordable home is strict.
For a three-member family to apply, all members have to be permanent residents of Shanghai for at least seven years; having their registered residence of the local district/county where they apply for an affordable apartment for five consecutive years; per capita housing area should be less than 15 square meters; per capita annual disposable income should be less than 39,600 yuan (US$6,217) and per capita assets should be less than 120,000 yuan.
"These are strict standards," said Zhang Yunfeng, who is in charge of the district's affordable housing department. "If the residents lie or conceal the truth, they will not only be denied the chance to buy an affordable apartment, but also be recorded for their dishonesty in the banking system."
