Fastest subway in China opens for trial operation
THE main line of the first phase of Shanghai Metro Line 11's north part will start trial operation on Thursday.
By then, it will become the fastest subway line in China, with a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
The first phase of the north part consists of two lines: a main line starting from Jiading North to Jiangsu Road in Changning District, and a branch line from Jiading New City to Anting.
It will take 50 minutes from Jiading North to Jiangsu Road.
Running through Districts including Jiading, Putuo and Changning, the line totals 46 kilometers in length. It boasts 11 underground stations, eight elevated stations and one ground-level station.
According to the plan, Metro Line 11 can interchange with 16 other lines in the city.
It can interchange with Metro Line 2 at Jiangsu Road, Lines 3 and 4 at Caoyang Road, Line 13 (under construction) at Longde Road, Line 14 (under construction) at Caoyang Road and Zhenru Road, Lines 15 and 16 (under construction) at Shanghai West Station and Line 17 (under construction) at Nanxiang.
To bring more convenience to passengers, six new bus lines have been launched recently and 24 bus lines have been redesigned to connect with the stations.
Metro Line 11 will also be extended west to Huaqiao Town in Kunshan in neighboring Jiangsu Province.
After the completion of Metro Line 11 this year, construction will begin on Lines 13, 14, 16 and 17 in Jiading District.
When completed, Jiading will boast five Metro lines with a total length of 53.8 kilometers and 26 stations.
The southern branch of Metro Line 11 will start construction within the year and will be completed in 2012. With a total length of 59.334 kilometers, it will connect the District with Pudong New Area and Linggang New City.
Beijing-Shanghai Express Rail and Shanghai-Nanjing Inter-City Rail are also under construction. Beijing-Shanghai Express Rail is expected to open next year.
