Firms sign up for new e-retail platform
JJT (Jiajingtong), or the Jiading Cross-Border E-Retailer Platform, was officially launched late last month while Jiading Export Processing Zone was authorized as a municipal cross-border e-commerce industrial park.
It took a year for the district to establish the platform, one of the measures the district government has taken to replicate the success of the free trade zone, according to Jiading Governer Gao Yun.
The district will facilitate a series of projects and the construction of public service platforms as its next step, with plans to introduce related support policies to bolster the cross-border e-retailing sector.
At the launching ceremony, more than 20 cross-border e-retailers signed cooperation agreements to join JJT and, to date, more than 30 such companies have signed up.
The accumulative value of imported goods via the platform is worth over 10 million yuan (US$1.5 million).
In November last year, Shanghai Customs approved the Jiading Export Processing Zone to be a trial cross-border e-retailer.
Early this year, the zone joined hands with kjt.com and easipay.net to establish JJT to provide services including warehouse storage, customs clearance and foreign currency payment. Unlike other cross-border e-retailers, JJT focuses on providing services through the platform.
The warehouse facility of Jiading Export Processing Zone is now under construction. A bonded warehouse will be operational in April next year while an industrial park will be ready to use by 2017.
