Folk artists leave Expo visitors with lasting memories
AS Expo winds down, visitors will take away with them memories of unforgettable performances at the Citizen Square of Expo Park.
Who can ever forget the music, song and dance of 200 folk artists from Jiading District who entertained at the park three times a day from September 28 to October 7?
The performances, which included Peking Opera, Chinese instrumental music and folk dances, were planned and designed by the performers themselves.
"It's interesting to watch performances that have a strong local flavor,'' said Zhou Wei, a tourist from Nanjing, who watched one show.
Another visitor, from Wenzhou, sat at the first row and watched a show from start to finish. He praised the quality of the performance.
Also awed was David Sis, a director from Czech State Television.
"Beautiful,'' he said as his film crew shot a 30-minute performance for airing back in Prague. "Just perfect."
Li Jing, one of the performers, was supposed to attend her grandmother's 88th birthday party during the first week in October.
The party clashed with one of the performances at Expo Park.
But granny had her priorities and insisted that the show must go on even if it meant her granddaughter's absence.
