Fruit shop chain to open more outlets
Xiangbalao Fruit Shop has opened four new outlets in Jiading this year, bringing the total to 14 so far. The fruit shop chain plans to open another six outlets by the end of the year and aims to expand the number of outlets to 100 in Jiading and neighboring districts in 2020.
“It took 20 minutes for me to buy fruits in supermarkets before, and the fruits were not fresh, nor affordable,” resident Liu Xianghua said. Since a Xiangbalao shop opened in Jinshajiang Road on August 29, Liu and other residents buy their fruit there.
The shop sells not only local fruit but also imported fruit from Oceania and Southeast Asia. The shop sells around 300 varieties of fruit all year round. At a Xiangbalao outlet in Fuyun Road there are 150 types of fruit on sale.
The company has set up planting bases in Shanghai, Shaanxi, Sichuan and many other places and claims to be strict in its use of chemicals. The pesticides used are harmless to humans and the environment.
Recently their base in Maoqiao Village of Huating Town in Jiading harvested peaches, and they sold out within seconds.
Chain stores have advantages in fruit purchasing channels and the business model of “planters+bases+shops” has brand edge and customer loyalty, according to industry insiders.
More people are buying fruit from online shops. “Online shopping is a trend, but the key for fruit is freshness, so we are not going to enter online shopping without a clear strategy,” Xiangbalao said.
