Gang of swindlers鈥 leader jailed

A GANG leader who swindled more than 2.5 million yuan (US$407,830) from 47 victims has been put behind bars by Jiading People’s Court.
The leader surnamed Zheng got 14 1/2 years in jail and fined 740,000 yuan.
Zheng set up a business information company and hired seven employees to recruit the victims as image spokespeople for a fake company.
After cheating the victims out of money for clothing and tax, other members of the gang then contacted the victims by pretending to be consumer’s right protection association, TV station service staff or judicial officials and then continued to cheat them out of money by asking for deposits and legal fees.
They also recommended stock information to the victims and charged them more than 250,000 yuan in the name of commission, consultation fees and membership costs.
