Garden in the new town is a breath of fresh air
BIRDSONG starts the morning, and the scent of flowers wafts in the breeze around Yuanxiang Lake.
Older folk, who have risen early, follow the soft and slow music as they practice tai chi.
At noon, office workers have completed their morning’s work and leave their buildings to enjoy the view of the lake and nearby forest.
In the evening, the street lamps are lit up and couples take a stroll.
Now that it’s early summer, lotus flower buds and water birds catch people’s attention.
Green trees, the lake, the boulevard and scenic spots form a grand garden for new town residents. People are usually too busy to notice views on the road, but the roads by the Yuanxiang Lake and the Ziqidonglai scenic spot are exceptions.
The sidewalks on Yumin Road S., Taxiu Road, Akesu Road and Tianzhu Road are broad and decorated with greenery. At the side of the road, yellow, pink and purple roses half a meter tall are in full bloom.
Walk in the greenery
Akesu Road and Taxiu Road’s sidewalks wind their way along the banks of Yuanxiang Lake, where wooden chairs and stone benches are provided for strollers to pause and enjoy the reeds, lotus and large lawns nearby.
It is an ideal place for a walk.
The new Jiading Library is at the intersection of Taxiu Road and Yumin Road S.
You can find a chair and read a book there with a cup of tea in hand, since there is a shop in front of the library.
The major attraction of both Yuanxiang Lake and Ziqidonglai scenic spots are reeds and lotus flowers.
Visitors can get a good view of them while walking on the wooden trestles on the side of the lake.
If you are keen to see more lotus flowers, you can go to the lotus growing base on Chenggu Road, where 1,000 pots of lotus flowers of different species will soon be in bloom.
For children, there’s a playpark at the intersection of Yining Road and Akesu Road.
The park has a “road for the brave,” a climbing wall for older kids and a slide for smaller ones.
Children’s park
There is a swing and sand pit. When children are playing, parents can rest on wooden chairs shaded by trees.
By the side of Yuanxiang Lake, there are many small stylish buildings.
One of them called Quiet Tea, or jingcha, opened to the public recently.
The interior is of traditional Chinese design and there’s a large hall to display sculptures, bonsai and unique stones.
But the main function is served as a tea house, a perfect place to entertain friends and relations.
