General practitioners

AFTER five years’ training at Shanghai Institute of Health Sciences, the first 25 general practitioners have joined clinics in Jiading District in a program designed to solve the problem of a lack of GPs against a background of surging population and an aging society. Next May, 35 general practitioners will graduate as a fruit of the district’s policy to encourage high school students become doctors. By 2020, Jiading will see nearly 100 community doctors retire.
