Get out the house and get involved
WITH summer here, little excuse is needed to leave the house and partake in an outdoor recreation at public squares, parks and sports arenas in the area.
Roller skating & dancing
Early in the morning, Nanxiang Town's residents leave their homes and flock to the cultural center. Children wearing roller skates and knee pads can be seen gliding everywhere, four girls form a "train" by holding hands while skating. About 100 people are dancing in time to the music to keep fit. The number of dancers increases to more than 300 after a short time. Scenes like this are an everyday sight at public squares in every town and community in Jiading. Jiading Bole Square, the public square in Anting, and Century Square in Malu are all ideal places for local residents to congregate during the summer.

Tai chi
Tai chi is one of the most popular martial arts in the area. You can see people of all ages practicing tai chi in parks and public squares in Jiading. Every evening, people from Yulan No. 4 Village are seen practicing tai chi, demonstrating an elegant and professional assortment of soft and strong moves. They have been practicing tai chi in the square for six years.

Croquet
Regardless of the high temperature, you will always see elderly people playing croquet if you come to the public playground of Gaochao Village in Jiangqiao Town in the morning.
They usually play for up to four hours each time and three times a week. There are 16 villages in Jiangqiao Town and they all have their own croquet playground and croquet team. There are more than 400 old people participating in the sport, practicing and having competitions almost every day. Among the 16 croquet playgrounds, those belonging to Hongguang Central Village and Gaochao Central Village are the best.
