Guyi Garden overflowing with finest lilies in the land

THE 4th Shanghai Lotus & Water Lily Exhibition opened on July 1 at Guyi Garden in Jiading. More than 300 varieties of lotus and some 200 varieties of water lilies are on display.

Visitors can appreciate some new varieties springing from state-of-the-art technology. A few new varieties bred with ion implantation techniques are exhibited in Shanghai for the first time, for example, a kind of lotus with wrinkled leaves.

Taking into account the existing artificial hills, lake stones and plants at Guyi Garden, this year’s exhibition features eight landscaped gardens and 12 sets of flower combinations, all in a poetry theme.

The exhibition will last until the end of this month. There will also be exhibitions of calligraphy, painting, hand-painted fans, flower combinations and miniature potted gardens with moss.

There are also art lectures each week, along with a series of interactive events and programs including a lotus photography contest, a science camp, yoga workshops and an essay competition.

Visitors can buy lotus-inspired items such as pencil cases and scented sachets in the souvenir store.

Date: Through July 31, 7am-6:30pm
