Han Han toughs it out to become CTCC champion
SHANGHAI International Circuit hosted the final leg of 2012 China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) and Shanghai leg of the World Touring Car Championship on November 3 and 4.
There are two races of CTCC for different car teams - 1600cc and 2000cc. Cui Yue from Beijing Hyundai won the 2012 overall champion of the former, while Han Han from Shanghai Volkswagon 333 was crowned 2012 overall champion of the latter.
Meanwhile, Chevrolet's Rob Huff came the first in the ranking list of WTCC temporarily.
Although on the ranking list Cui had 53 points ahead of the second, he was followed closely by other three drivers. Cui made a brilliant start but was eventually surpassed by the Hainan Mazda racers due to mistakes in cooperation with team members. However, Cui showed his strength and managed to catch up to the first and won the championship in the end.
In another race, Shanghai native driver Han started at the fourth track with three Chang'an Ford drivers ahead of him. At the beginning of the race, Han took the risk of accelerating the engine promptly and got the third place. His main rival, Jiang Tengyi, led the race but Han overtook him when Jiang was involved in an incident with another car. Han finally managed to get the crown of 2012 overall CTCC of 2000cc car teams, with the second place to finish this final leg of race. He was so overjoyed and kissed his car when the race was over.
"Han Han made a comeback for a second year in a row, it's so exciting!" spectator Zhao Zhuo cried out in the main stand.
Spectators had a good time. Some even tried their driving skills at karting track.
Before the race, drivers signed autographs for fans.
"I had only seen them on TV in the past," a female fan said with a poster full of drivers' signatures.
"But now we are so close to each other. It's incredible!"
