Highway relieves heavy traffic on outer ring road

THE S6 Huxiang Highway is now open after four years’ construction, greatly relieving the heavy traffic on the northwest section of the outer ring road.
It also helps reduce the time for the people in Jiading New Town to drive to the G15 Highway (from Shenyang to Haikou), and the outer ring.
The 11.77 kilometer two-way six-lane highway starts from the northwest point of the outer ring, runs westward across the S5 Highway and eventually connects with the G15 Highway.
The toll station is set between Shengxin Road and Yongsheng Road, which is not far from the G15 Highway.
Free toll
The section of S6 from the toll station to the outer ring is free.
Both the G15 Highway and the west section of the outer-ring road are the north-south main channels of Shanghai. However, most cargo trucks don’t like to drive to the G15 Highway because of the extra distance.
But now drivers can run along the S6 to reach the same destination and avoid the congestion on the outer ring.
Exclusive lanes
Staff with Jiading traffic and construction authorities said the S6 Highway will become an important channel to relieve traffic pressure at the Hongqiao Traffic Hub.
People can get to the Shanghai International Circuit, Poly Grand Theater and Yunxiang Residential Area through S6 Highway.
The Jiading government has applied to the municipal government that S5 Highway will be open for small vehicles exclusively while S6 Highway will be the specific channel for cargo trucks.
