Hitting the high notes at song and dance contests
ORGANIZERS of "Grassroots Big Stage," a series of cultural activities in Jiading, said there are more performances this year and they are attracting both young and old.
The Grassroots Big Stage has six contests, including a singing contest in April, dancing contest in May, folk art contest in June, an opera contest in August and an art contest for migrant workers in October.
The highlight of Grassroots Big Stage this year is to get more residents up on stage and show everyone their talent, said Zhao Xiaomin, an official at Jiading District Culture Center.
More young people joined in. In the singing contest, contestants under 30 years old accounted for 90 percent of the total. Young and middle-aged people also impressed the crowd with their samba and belly dancing.
