Home Study library sets up another 24-hour unit

Another 24-hour Home Study library has opened in Jiading — at Ryan Education.

Spread over 150 square meters, it houses 5,000 English picture books and English and Chinese educational and literary books, making up for the lack of charity public libraries with English picture books.

It is the eighth Home Study has set up in Jiading.

Li Xiaolin, a local, said that the Home Study libraries in Jiading are not big, but they have a warm feeling and make people want to be there for the whole day. Also, they hold book-sharing and themed reading activities.

Since the first Home Study was launched in the district’s Juyuan New Area in early 2017, the libraries have bloomed.

Before their launch, each library is given a specific theme on which to operate.

Also, Home Study libraries in Jiading have been incorporated into the Shanghai Library book management system, allowing for automatic book borrowing, renewal, and returning services, according to Huang Ying, vice curator of Jiading Library.

Home Study libraries have been set up to meet growing demand, especially from readers in Anting Town, Jiading Industrial Zone and Huating Town.

The libraries are packed on weekends, a staff member with the Home Study in Anting Town revealed. The library is situated among large residential communities, where the major demographics are young families who have strong reading habits.

It has 20,000 books and is divided into salons, boutique area, aesthetics area, desert bar and parent-child area.

Other than the reading activities, the Anting Town Home Study hosts events such as movie salons, fun salons, and picture book reading.
