Increase in recycling resources
MORE and more companies in Jiading District started to use recycling resources to increase productivity as well as to achieve a balance between environment and economic development.
Shanghai Xingfu Ruibeide Powertrain Co Ltd in Anting Town has sold 20,000 old engines which underwent reproduction, saving 1,062 tons of steel and reducing 5,220 tons of solid waste. The company is listed as one of China's 14 pilot enterprises of China's auto-parts remanufacturing.
Ruibeide Powertrain requires each remanufactured engine to go through simulation tests to ensure that all indicators are qualified. The qualified remanufactured engine costs only half of a new piece. But its performance is almost the same as a new one, and so is the after-sales service, said warranty manager Jiang Zhengsheng. "The claim rate is only 0.45 percent."
The remanufacturing of auto parts by Volkswagen has a history of more than 50 years, and the steel saved through remanufactured engines is able to build 49 Eiffel Towers.
Shanghai Yuanjian Organic Fertilizer Plant is a good solution to environment and health risks caused by livestock mass excrement in local farms. Every day, a large amount of animal waste is turned into organic fertilizer after being dried, ground and mixed in the plant.
The plant collects more than 40,000 tons of animal waste from local farms a year and recycles wheat straw from local rice producers. The plant produced 18,000 tons of organic fertilizers last year, of which 10,000 tons were sold to various gardens in the district.
The output of Unisteel Technology Limited last year reached 360 million yuan (US$56 million), double the previous year, while the water consumption of the company maintained almost the same as the previous standard, largely credited to its water recycling system.
The plant area of Unisteel is dotted with tanks in various sizes to collect waste water. As the water needed in each step on the assembly line varies in quality, the water recycling system can collect part of the leftover water and then supply to other processes with relatively lower demand on water quality. The excess can also be used for toilet flushing and irrigation.
"We have invested nearly 1 million yuan for the water recycling system and the benefits are obvious. Last year we saved nearly 500,000 yuan," said Cao Jinda, director of the plant.
