Industries bank on green technology for growth

Enterprises in Jiading District are putting an emphasis on environment-friendly and energy-saving products to grab more business opportunities.As soon as a batch of water-saving products of Waigang Sanitary Wares Factory hit the market, it immediately achieved a sales volume of more than three million yuan (US$439,452), accounting for 10 percent of total sales.
The factory's owner said energy-saving products will become the factory's focus in the future. It is now doing research on controlled valve and taps that match solar water heaters. Small scale manufacturing and test sales will be conducted in the first half of the year.
Shanghai Nanyang Electrical Machinery Co Ltd invested more than 20 million yuan in research on new energy resources and technology for wind power dynamotors and electrical machines during last year. It contributed to a yearly output of 450 million yuan.
The launch of the industrial base for new-energy auto and key parts in Jiading has given Nanyang an opportunity. It is now stepping up development to maximise potential.
Shanghai Usun Technology Inc had a yearly sales of 160 million yuan and taxation 12 times that of the previous year.
Considering that photoelectricity energy will become a dominant energy source in a future market, the company is now working on research and development on a new glass with photoelectric characteristics.
Chen Jiacheng, general manager of Shanghai Usun Technology Inc, said the new product's light transmittance could be increased by 5 percent compared with that of the traditional products. Two production lines have been put into operation and new products can be on the market this year.
By 2011, eight production lines will swing into action and their yearly output will reach 100 million yuan.
