Industry energy-saving sees progress
Jiading is making sustained efforts on pollution control and industrial structure adjustment to promote green development of key industries.
So far, the district has made significant achievements in energy saving and emission reduction.
Enterprises above designated size in the district consumed 1,168 million tons of standard coal equivalent in total last year, according to Jiading economic committee.
Energy consumption per 10,000 yuan (US$1,474) of enterprises above designated size and high energy-consuming enterprises were 0.043 TCE and 0.064 TCE, down 5.25 percent and 5.56 percent, respectively, from a year earlier.
More than 100 high energy-consuming enterprises had an annual energy consumption of 2,000 TCE each. Many failed to meet regulations of waste gas emissions as a result of increased energy consumption caused by untimely equipment replacement and lagging energy supply technologies.
The district has helped a number of enterprises cut energy consumption and gas emissions over the past two years. A paint company in northern Jiading used to have a large amount of volatile organic compounds emission, sparking complaints from local residents. Last year, it began investing in clean production and renovation with the help of the district government and its energy consumption was cut by 20 percent.
Jiading completed clean energy replacement of all small and medium coal-fired boilers and industrial kiln in 2015. However, concentration of nitrogen oxide discharged from boilers was relatively high.
Last year, the district transformed and upgraded nearly 10 boilers at local factories to cut nitrogen oxide emission.
