Intelligent vehicle zone agreement

SHANGHAI Economic and Information Technology Commission has signed an agreement with the Jiading District government on the construction of a National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Shanghai) Pilot Zone, aiming to position Shanghai as a leading center in the development of the intelligent connected vehicle industry.

Jiading plans to push forward the development of new energy and intelligent vehicles during the 13th five-year period to 2020, and provide consistent support and service for the construction of the pilot zone, Zhang Xi, director of Jiading District, said at the signing ceremony.

According to the agreement, the pilot zone will shoulder at least five national major projects and form more than 10 industry standards. The pilot zone will attract more than 100 high level talents and incubate 30 innovative enterprises with total value of 1 billion yuan (US$147 million).

In addition, a demonstration area of 100 square kilometers on intelligent connected vehicles will be set up in the pilot zone.

The pilot zone will push forward the development of the industry, set up a platform for intelligent new energy vehicles, promote exchanges and cooperation between home and abroad, and develop the industry at city and district level.

Six core platforms and three public service bases will be set up in the Shanghai Manufacturing Industry Innovative Center unveiled at the same time.

The center aims to be a leading global center in the area in 2020.

The pilot zone will carry out 10 key projects with a total investment of over 200 million yuan, covering V2X communications, high definition positioning, artificial intelligent and information security. V2X sensors connect vehicles to other vehicles and infrastructure, a critical component for self-driving car functions.

Jiading plans to develop intelligent connected vehicle technology in four steps.

In the first stage, 15 kilometers of enclosed roads and 200 test vehicles will be set up.

In the second stage, 73 kilometers of roads and 1,000 test vehicles will be set up in an area of 27 square kilometers.

In the third stage, tests will be made in a demonstration area.

The fourth stage will comprise two roads connecting Anting and the Hongqiao transport hub.
