THE Shanghai Internet of Things Center opened in Jiading District on September 26, strengthening the district's leading status in the industry.

Approved in March 2010 by the Shanghai government, the whole center will be completed in three phases. The first phase of the center is 80,000 square meters. It hosts several research laboratories in the fields of wireless communication, new energy and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The Chinese Academy of Sciences' key laboratory in wireless sensor networks and communication, Shanghai Wireless Communication Center, Shanghai Automotive Electronic Engineering Center and New Energy Technology Center have settled in the center along with other research institutions.

The second phase will be 130,000 square meters, including incubation, training and demonstration centers.

The third phase will be an industrial zone for the Internet of Things companies, covering 133,000 square meters.

Currently, more than 100 Internet of Things companies have settled in Jiading District and an IoT development fund has been established.

It is expected that 10 core R&D institutions, 10 industrial leading enterprises, 200 backbone corporations and 500 small and medium sized companies in the IoT field will settle in the district by the end of 2013.
