Internet of Things seminar lays foundation for the future

A China-UK seminar on Internet of Things was held in Jiading on December 6. The discussion between both sides covered the latest Internet of Things technologies and business models in the automotive, industrial and commercial sectors and practical applications of the technology in Shanghai.

During the event, Internet of Things projects were promoted and many firms reached preliminary agreements. The host invited executives from 10 British companies in RFID, micro-sensor, NFC, sensor network, software and integrated services to introduce innovative products from Britain. More than 80 Chinese firms and research organizations attended the event.

Internet of Things is the latest IT wave following Internet and mobile communications. The UK has a complete industry chain of the Internet of Things, from component design and manufacturing to background data analysis.

Jiading is now one of two Internet of Things industrial bases in Shanghai. The Shanghai Internet of Things Center was founded in Jiading in March 2010. Since then, almost 100 related manufacturing and service firms have located in the center. They focus on research into sensors, software, data analysis, information transmission, location and Internet security projects.

By the end of 2013, three Internet of Things projects will be basically set up in Jiading - Shanghai Internet of Things Center, Shanghai Internet of Things Industrial Base and Jiading Demonstration Area of Smart Shanghai. The district will become the most competitive Internet of Things industrial base in China, with 50 billion yuan (US$7.8 billion) in output.
