Jiading gets a big charge out of Volt
CHEVROLET Volt, the world's first extended-range electric vehicle, was officially displayed at the China (Shanghai) Electric Vehicle International Demonstration Zone in Jiading District on January 5.
It is the seventh electric vehicle brand and the second international auto brand settled down in Jiading.
Potential car buyers will be able to test drive the Volt at the demonstration zone.
As a pioneer of the electric vehicle industry in China, Jiading has spared no efforts to explore market demands since the inauguration of the demonstration zone last April.
On April 6 last year, the first batch of private electric vehicles received licenses for the road. Last May, the test drive center for electric vehicles was established and more than 210,000 people had visited the center by the end of 2011.
An on-site survey found that about 44 percent of participants were willing to buy electric vehicles within three years, while 95 percent of the participants tended to buy new energy vehicles costing less than 200,000 yuan (US$31,672).
This year, more models will be displayed at the demonstration zone. Charging stations and supporting facilities will be improved to bring diversity and convenience to electric vehicles. Meanwhile, a group purchase plan has been created to encourage more individuals to purchase new energy vehicles.
According to Chen Ye, deputy director of the Science and Technology Commission of Jiading District, the zone will be built into a base for the demonstration of 10,000 electric vehicles in three years.
"Clubs for both enterprises and individuals will be set up," Chen said. "Forums, exhibitions and auto races will be organized as platforms to conduct exchanges. Besides, four centers will be built - one for commercial mode innovation, another for demonstration and assessment, the third for operation and service, and the last one for test drives."
Also, 30 electric buses will be put into operations on bus route in Jiading by Shanghai International Auto City this year.
