Jiading perfects its public transportation network

THE adjustment of Jiading District bus routes in the past years has speeded up, while the public transportation layout has also been changed from a radiation style to a more reasonable network style.
The district's average daily passenger flow has increased dramatically from 50,000 in 2006 to 230,000 at present, with an increase of bus lines from 30 to 66.
The original radiation style layout centering on the Nanmen Bus Terminal could hardly meet the rapid increase. It was imperative to have a network style layout to cover a wider range of areas, according to local transport authority.
For example, six bus routes have been adjusted after the Jiading Bus Terminal was put in operation, to solve the problem of "last kilometer" for commuters who live more than one kilometer away from any public transportation network.
Among them, the Nanjia Line and Jiading Bus No. 12 were extended with some new stops.
The terminal of Bus No. 9 of Hongqiao Transport Hub has been moved from West Bus Station to Jiading Bus Terminal, which is one block away.
"These adjustments will be more convenient for most passengers," officials from Jiading District Traffic and Transportation Management Bureau said.
Meanwhile, the bureau has added more bus connections to the 10 stops of Metro Line 11 in Jiading. The line runs from Shanghai's Pudong New Area through downtown city and Jiading and finally to Huaqiao, a Jiangsu Province town bordering Jiading.
It is planning new bus connections to Metro Line 13. The line, running from east in Pudong to Jiading's Jiangqiao Town in the west, is partly in use and the Jiading section is still under construction.
The transport authority has also increased bus lines to areas of increasing population and new public facilities including hospitals, schools and supermarkets.
