THE 14th FINA World Championships are in full swing now and will end on July 31 in Shanghai. Wang Hefei, who represents Jiading District, took part in the open water swimming contest. It is the first time for Jiading athletes to attend this event. From 2007 till now, Jiading athletes have won 17 gold, 23 silver and 16 bronze awards in city-level swimming competitions.
One-stop center opens
Juyuan Community Service Center was recently put into operation and residents can enjoy the one-stop service at a cheaper price. The center, at 789 Pingcheng Road, covers an area of 2,000 square meters, offering various services such as key cutting, shoe repairs, knife sharpening, hair cutting, sewing, laundering and appliance repairs.
Animation victories
Two animated short movies, "Tianjingsha: Autumn Thoughts" recommended by Shanghai Art & Design Academy and "Holly Trees" recommended by Shaanxi Province, received national awards at the 8th Hamburg International Animation Contest in Germany.
Bomb suspect arrested
Jiading police caught a suspect surnamed Qu three hours after a bomb exploded in RT-Mart supermarket in Zhenxin community on July 4. A staff worker at the supermarket on Xinyu Road received an anonymous call from a man threatening to blow up the store by putting a bomb in a locker. The supermarket immediately called the police and started searching the supermarket for the explosive device. The bomb went off at about 2pm, destroying several lockers, but no one was injured. The suspect Qu was later arrested. Qu, who was already wanted by the police, said that he wanted to use the self-made bomb to extort money from the supermarket because of financial difficulties.
