Jiading talent's product praised
A NEW type of high-efficiency solid state nanostructure thermoelectric energy converter invented by Shanghai University professor Dr Hu Zhiyu recently won patent of invention in the United States.
Dr Hu is a member of Jiading District's Thousand Talents Program which supports the return of high-level overseas talents for innovation and entrepreneurship.
His invention will be applied in the first "NanoEPower" processing line for scientific research on chips and nano-processing at International Automobile City in Jiading.
It is a project co-developed by the joint efforts of Hu and the local government.
Hu's new invention is "of revolutionary significance" to raise the energy utility rate. It can prevent the loss of 80 percent of heat energy that usually occurs during traditional high-temperature combustion and lighting processes.
Also, it takes hydrocarbons as fuel which will turn into carbon dioxide and water after combustion and lead to no harmful gas.
Several experts believe that with its high efficiency, small size, low weight and environmental-friendly advantages, it could provide electricity power not only to mobile phones and laptops, but also to a variety of large manufacturers.
"Hu's invention is very suitable as an auto energy resource,'' said Pu Weida, who is in charge of the High-level Overseas Talents Innovation and Enterprise Base at Shanghai International Automobile City. "It provides a new means of battery for electric vehicles, which will be of great significance to Jiading, the home to the auto city," he said.
Hu has also established a laboratory at Shanghai University to seek further breakthroughs in the field.
