Join the action and celebrate Chinese New Year

FLOWER appreciation, a traditional temple fair and lantern riddle games are being held at Guyi Garden to celebrate the Year of the Dragon. It will end on February 9.

Flowers on display include orchids, rose, begonia, azalea, narcissus and Japanese quince.

"It's great fun to appreciate flowers in such a joyful atmosphere," said Zhou Lei, who visited the garden together with his family from Minhang District.

A series of cultural events add diversity to the celebration.

For instance, a performance tour featuring artists from Shanghai Huju Opera House, Shanghai Yueju Opera House and Shanghai Farce Troupe will visit 12 towns and communities in Jiading to entertain local residents.

Through February 29, a calligraphy and painting exhibition will be held at the Confucius Temple in Jiading. Works from artists across the nation will be displayed to pray for peace, harmony and good luck.

During the Spring Festival, movie buffs can also visit the cinema to watch films such as "Sherlock Holmes 2," "A Game of Shadows" and "Nutcracker" in 3D.

Last year, a lot of local programs were put forward on different stages. The residents showed great passion on these cultural events. As a result, a retrospective exhibition on people's cultural life is held during the festival.

"I used to pay little attention to these cultural events happening around," said Gao Hui, a visitor to the exhibition. "Now I find it is so attractive and I would be part of it in the future."
